Acomplia:-A Diet Pill Of Weight Loss

The success of weight loss pills has encouraged the pharma companies to introduce drugs with improvements on the last one. The latest addition to the long list of weight loss pills is Acomplia. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it’s not only a useful weight control drug but also curbs smoking and improves cholesterol and blood sugar level. Acomplia is the result of the research and development of drug manufacturer Sanofi-Aventis.

It received approval in Europe in June 2006. It is used in conjunction with diet and exercise for obese and overweight patients. With associated risk factors, such as dyslipidemia (type 2 diabetes). Acomplia functions by affecting the Endocannabinoid system which controls appetite and energy expenditure.

It selectively blocks some receptors in the Endocannabinoid system, thus creating a better balance which in turn suppresses appetite and the longing to overeat. A second name trademarked by Sanofi-Aventis, in addition to Acomplia for rimonabant is. Zimulti, Sanofi is likely to use the name Zimulti in America and Acomplia in Europe. As of June, 2006, when Rimonabant was approved for sale in Europe, "Acomplia" was indeed the name chosen for European sale.

The chemical ingredient rimonabant in Acomplia helps in controlling smoking. Rimonabant works by blocking the CB- 1 receptors that governs food intake and tobacco dependency. The receptors are not only in the brain, but also throughout the body, notably in fat cells.

Although Accomplia may become a multi-million dollar seller a year and has yet to receive approval from Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of United States as a diet drug, the pill needs to be taken with caution. Since the drug is still in its infancy, such efforts are to be studied. Acomplia causes dizziness, nausea, irritability, depression and restlessness. The side-effects of Acomplia however are fewer as compared to other drugs. Its positive effects on weight loss, smoking cessation, and its aptitude to maintain a healthy cholesterol level, blood sugar and blood pressure are highly beneficial for the consumers.

Do not take Acomplia without your health care professional's advice. Acomplia needs to be taken each day before breakfast or as prescribed by Doctor. Double dose of the medication is prohibited and can lead to hazardous consequences.
